Heartbeat’s Carla Richards Receives Bryce Lilly Award

McChord Air Force Base recently honored Carla Richards with the Bryce Lilly Service Award, the highest service award given by the wing commander. Carla is a Heartbeat advisory board member. She spent many hours picking up and delivering hundreds of donated Christmas toys to McChord AFB. The Lilly award was presented to Carla during McChord’s 2008 Annual Awards Ceremony.

Master Sgt. Bryce Lilly helped defeat the enemy in WWII battles. He was a POW for almost four years and was one of the few surviving members of the infamous 70-mile Bataan Death March. In 2002 he passed away peacefully at the age of 82.

General Baker, commanding general of Madigan at the time, wanted to make a safe, comfortable, and healing room for service members. Thanks to generous donors, the idea became a reality. Service members can e-mail, play video games, read, and relax in a room that looks and feels like a comfortable living room. The view of Mount Rainier is incredible.
